New game for XBox360, PS3, Wii, PC – “Ashes Cricket 2009″

Posted by: TheAshesBlog.com In: News ()

There’s a new game on the way, and it looks sensational!! It’s called “Ashes Cricket 2009″, and it’ll be available for XBox360, PlayStation 3, and PC from June, and later in the year it’ll be released for Nintendo Wii. Real players, real grounds, and even the latest cricket rules. You’ll be able to play Tests, one-dayers, and Twenty20 games, with each team incorporating different players depending on the format being played.

Here’s an interview with producer Jamie Firth:

And here’s a snip from the press release by game developers Codemasters:

“Providing gamers with the most authentic Ashes experience possible without having to don their whites, Ashes Cricket 2009 is fully licensed by Cricket Australia, the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) and the MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club, the world’s most famous cricket club and owner of the Ashes urn), providing the game with all the official players, kit, stadia – including Lords and The Brit Oval – and equipment from this year’s Ashes Series.
… Given that the English and Australia selectors are keeping the final Ashes sides under close guard, the exact lineup in the game has yet to be confirmed, but expect to see 23 players in each squad, covering all of the usual suspects. We saw models of Ponting, Vaughan, Prior, and Sidebottom, all of whom were instantly recognisable.”

If I can secure a copy then I’ll provide a review of Ashes Cricket 2009 after it’s released.

Owen: Here’s your answer:

“Australia, August 3, 2009 – Ashes Cricket 2009 on Wii is hitting the UK on August 7, in time for the fourth test, but Aussie Wii owners won’t be able to share in the action, as the Wii version of the game has been pushed back to November in Australia. This is to coincide with the start of the summer season, and presumably to generate interest over a longer period at a busier time of year.”

About

TheAshesBlog.com is the home of the re-enacted Ashes photos, where you'll find pivotal Ashes moments re-enacted in an Aussie backyard. So we might show Ricky Ponting celebrating a century, only the venue is a backyard in Brisbane rather than The Oval. And the stumps are a cardboard box. And KP doesn't really look like that in real life ... or does he?
